Badges are a type of micro-credential, visual and digital representations of a skill or an achievement, containing “meta” data that links back to the awarding institution.
They are digital assets used to communicate a certification achievement. They link to metadata that provide context about each certification earned and they provide a means of verifying a certification’s authenticity. They can be shared across social networks for maximum visibility and recognition.
The value of open badges is not just earning them as proof of completing an assignment, but is in the ability to share with people the skills, behaviours and knowledge you have acquired through completing activities.
